The comments above regarding the novel and its high culture/popular culture status apply equally in relation to poetry. Certainly the work of Betjeman may be thought of as relatively ‘mainstream’, having being popularised through television and found its way onto a number of ‘pop records’. There are a great many poems that relate in some way to aspects of education and/or schooling – too many to list. Below are some collections of poems in which these themes are particularly prominent.
